All-Inclusive Junior Golf Academy – French Woods, NY
Located on a private lake in the western Catskills of New York State, just 120 miles from New York City, is the French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts. Children from throughout the United States and around the world participate in a golf camp and other programs run by certified golf teachers and complimented by counselor specialists.
French Woods Festival was founded in 1970. Through the years the program has expanded and now includes dance, theater, music, circus, magic, visual arts, as well as well-rounded sports and horseback riding programs. Now the United States Schools of Golf is proud to offer its world class junior golf programs.
French Woods offers children from seven to seventeen a unique opportunity to explore their interests in golf and improve their abilities as well as more traditional camp activities.
CHOOSE YOUR SPECIFIC GOLF SKILL LEVEL
Upon arrival at camp, all campers are evaluated by the Director and Staff and placed in the program that best suits them for an experience that is effective and fun, not frustrating.
June 10-17 and August 12-19
LEVEL 1 - FOR BEGINNING GOLFERS
We'll teach you how to attain that all-important, fundamentally sound swing, as well as the proper mechanics and basics of golf course play.
June 17-24 and August 19-26
LEVEL II - FOR INTERMEDIATE GOLFERS
Specifically designed to help you develop and improve your swing, this program also helps you develop a positive attitude, instructs you on course management, and teaches the rules and proper etiquette of the game.
LEVEL III - FOR HIGH SCHOOL GOLFERS
This program is a special camp geared to help you play at a higher level on your team or to give you the skills and confidence to make your high school team. Specific attention is given to swing development, course management, and developing a sharp, positive competitive attitude.

LEVEL IV - FOR TOURNAMENT GOLFERS
For tournament level players with handicaps of twelve or less, this program addresses all aspects of competitive play including proper practice routines, mental and physical preparation and the opportunities for college golf.
STAFF: The United States Schools of Golf Staff constitute a very respected group of golf professionals and golf instructors. They've earned their reputations not only through years of dedication to the development of golf skills, but in helping to galvanize the characters of young golfers. Good teaching is personal. The instructors observe and instruct each player every day. The golf staff consists of PGA, LPGA, and PGTCA trained and certified golf professionals and college players who are friendly, enthusiastic and committed to the golf development and well being of each camper. Campers will be supervised by camp owner and director, Ron Schaefer and Howie Shafran. Howie is a retired physical education teacher and dean in the New York School system.
While at the Academy, students will move through a variety of teaching stations such as putting, chipping, pitching and bunker shots. Instruction will cover the fundamentals of the game; grip, ball position, posture, alignment and balance. The instruction moves at a pace to fit each student’s skill level. The students are grouped according to handicap and skill level. Full swing instruction will cover all the clubs in the bag, with a heavy emphasis being placed on the short game. Also there is on-course instruction, focusing on course management.
Each student will receive video and computer instruction designed to help the learning process. Using a computer to teach golf allows the instructional staff to pinpoint and prioritize a practice program for each student. At the end of the camp, each student will receive a custom take home practice program on tape.
